    • Chandigarh November 7: With an aim to help the prison inmates to maintain and improve their health and reduce physical and mental stress due to various reasons, the Haryana Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Vyakti Vikas Kendra India (VVKI), Haryana Apex Body, Panchkula in the presence of Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal and Founder of Art of Living Foundation and VVKI, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar here today.
    • While Director General, Prisons Dr K.P Singh signed the Memorandum on behalf of the State Government, Apex Member of Vyakti Vikas Kendra India, Haryana Mr R.K Sapra signed on behalf of VVKI.
    • Later, speaking on this occasion, Dr K.P Singh said that as per the MOU, Yoga, meditation and other programmes would be conducted with the help of VVKI for the welfare of prisoners on regular basis in all the prisons of the State for the willing jail inmates. No fee or cost would be charged for conducting these programmes, he added.
    • He said that it has been observed that the Prison inmates who are under-trial or are convicted remain in great physical and mental stress due to various reasons. The situation results in mental depression and diseases as well. To alleviate this situation, Yoga, meditation, sudarshan kriya and life positive discourages are extremely helpful.
    • He said that VVKI conduct various courses of ‘Art of Living’ and has been conducting PRISON SMART (Stress Management and Rehabilitation Training) courses for prison inmates successfully all over the world. This has been found to be very helpful in making the inmates accept and face the challenges in their lives.
    • Among those present on this occasion included Finance Minister, Capt. Abhimanyu, Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Mr. Karan Dev Kamboj and Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Jails, Criminal Investigation and Administration of Justice Department. Mr. S.S Prasad.
    • Chandigarh, Nov 7– Keen on producing 2,000 doctors every year to meet the shortage, the Haryana Government has decided to set up a medical college in every district of the state. 
    • This was stated by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, while speaking at the ‘Double Helical State Health Award 2017’ presentation ceremony organized here, late last evening. He honoured about 50 prominent doctors, health experts and medical specialists for their outstanding contribution in the field of healthcare.
    • Describing doctors’ profession as stressful, the Chief Minister said that a medical officer performed his duty round-the-clock. It is commendable. The state government is continuously working to meet the requirement of doctors and it could only be achieved by setting up new medical colleges.
    • Mr Manohar Lal said a medical health insurance scheme was also being finalized to ensure that poor people did not face any difficulty in getting treatment in hospitals.
